YOU ARE HERE

                       | EXIT UNLIKELY |

Architecture, being one the most immersive experiences humans encounter on a daily basis, unequivocally links identity with surrounding. YOU ARE HERE | EXIT UNLIKELY considers architecture, repetition, and perception. The work uses floor plans and aerial views from a range of geographical locations, institutions, residences, and architectural structures, that are decontextualized and reconstructed, evolving into imagined cartographic representations of time and place.

Approaching each piece with the same method, the lines are laid in by hand, returning later to systematically straighten each mark, a reflection of the ever changing and evolving nature of the manmade environment in which we live. It’s within the extensive layering that the variation in line weight begins to build, creating tension and movement within the imagined spaces. Having no real point of entry or exit, each piece becomes a never-ending maze, emblematic of not just one type of institution or social structure, but of all facets of modernity.

YOU ARE HERE | EXIT UNLIKELY attempts to create a heightened perception of where we are. Each piece is a visual catalyst for further investigation and reflection into the daily routines of the past, present, and future, with the knowledge that only in understanding and recognizing where you are, does the potentiality of an exit become a possibility.
